I think I bring a unique perspective to Virginia Tech basketball because I’ve played at Harvard, I’ve coached at Harvard, and I was able to be a part of the University of Central Florida staff last year in Orlando. So coming in, I wasn’t sure what to expect because this is my first time being at the quote unquote “really high major level” here in the ACC. So you don’t know what quite to expect, but the last few weeks of individual workouts and boot camp have been really eye opening for me.
For one, how hard the players work, and two how Coach Buzz holds them accountable for every aspect on the court and off. That’s been great for me to see, not that other coaches don’t do that, but they have different ways of doing it.
And you know the first day of boot camp I was so anxious to see what it would be like and it has been awesome to be apart of it all, to see the guys work so hard and have fun while doing it.
Now that I’ve been a part of Boot Camp, witnessed all that goes into it and what the guys go through, I can say this, it really brings the team together.
Every session you can see the team growing as brothers, even the freshmen, who are uneasy, and the walk ons, who are new are uneasy about where they fit it, now you see them running sprints, holding each other up, and just getting through it all together as one.
You see the leaders forming on the team and the seniors really taking on that leadership role because they’ve been experienced Boot Camp before.
The pecking order is starting to fall in line a bit, and it’s very unique and honestly pretty cool to see that without using a basketball!
